History & Purpose


Still Waters Youth Sinfo-Nia of Metropolitan Atlanta, celebrates over 23 years of instructing thousands of young talented instrumental and dance students, as well as providing over 400 performances locally, nationally and internationally. Sinfo-Nia is under the artistic direction of David E. Robinson, III, a 5th generation, 31-year string teacher of the DeKalb County School System. Sinfo-Nia performs various types of music, most of which are arranged by David himself.


Artist Director

Mr. David E. Robinson III, a Detroit, Michigan native of musical progeniture, is the founder and artistic director of the Still Waters Youth Sinfo-Nia of Metropolitan Atlanta.  He is also co-founder of the DeKalb Youth Pops, of which electric jazz violinist extraordinaire Ken Ford was a member.  This Morehouse College alumnus is a 30-year veteran music instructor for Dekalb County Schools.




Dance Director

Alycia W. Robinson is the Operations and Dance Director of Still Waters Youth Sinfo-Nia Orchestra of Metropolitan Atlanta, one of the few African American Community Youth Orchestra in the world, with its own Dance Company. Alycia was National Dance Director for the National Association of Negro Musicians for nearly a decade.

Sinfo-nia is an exciting, structured orchestra program in a nurturing, motivational environment. Students learn a unique repertoire of music including: classical, jazz, Negro spirituals, gospel, reggae, ragtime, country, motion picture themes, Top-40: rock, R & B, urban contemporary (hip-hop), etc. Musicians must bring their own instrument, music stand.  Students are required to attend at least one class per week, but are highly recommended to attend both.  Click here for School Year Session Registration Package.


Our two-week 2014 Summer Academy Session will take place July 7 – 18 at First Congregational Church as well.  Registration begins in February 2013.  Click here for Summer Academy Registration Package.



Tuition for the 2013-14 School Year Session is $550.00. It is prorated accordingly.  Family discounts are available if enrolling 2 or more students.


Tuition for the two-week 2014 Summer Academy Session is $350.00.  The “Early Bird” Tuition Discount  of $300.00 for Summer Academy is available if full amount is submitted by 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 31, 2014.

Sinfo-Nia Orchestra is currently enrolling for 2013-14 School Year Session.  We offer group instruction for beginning, intermediate and advanced level string students who study violin, viola, cello and double bass.  The Orchestra holds classes and rehearsals at First Congregational Church Commons at 125 Ellis Street, in downtown Atlanta during the school year on Monday evenings 6:30 – 8:30 and Saturday mornings from 9:00 – 12:00 PM.
